The City of Marion is working with Waters Edge Aquatic Design to perform an Outdoor Aquatic Center Feasibility Study. The study will evaluate the condition of the existing Marion Swimming Pool and collect the community’s preferences, needs and priorities for outdoor swimming. One of the first steps in the feasibility study is to conduct an online survey. The survey is available at www.cityofmarion.org/aquaticstudy. It should take about 10 minutes and will be available through Friday, Oct. 30, 2020. “Through this process, we are building the foundation for the future of aquatics in Marion,” said Interim Parks and Recreation Director Seth Staashelm. “We encourage participation to ensure all voices are heard and want to gain an in-depth understanding of the current and future aquatic needs of the community.” Additionally, a public open house is planned for the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 21 to discuss existing conditions and desired features of a new aquatic center. Both in person and virtual meeting options will be available. The Marion Swimming Pool opened in 1987. In recent years, pool attendance has declined, and the facility is experiencing ongoing and increasing maintenance issues. In 2016, through the development of the Master Park Plan, the need was identified for an updated outdoor aquatic center to serve a growing population and attract visitors. In 2018, a pool with water park-like features was the number one idea offered by residents through the ImagiNEXT community visioning process. Engage in the process and help envision the future of aquatics in Marion.
